Vino Rosso’s The Wine Steward now a four-time stakes winner

The Wine Steward took the lead in midstretch on his way to a 2 ¼-length victory in Saturday’s $200,000 Hudson S. at Aqueduct, the fourth career stakes win for the 4-year-old Vino Rosso colt.
The winner is one of four stakes winners this term for Vino Rosso, who is currently fourth on the Third-Crop sire list with progeny earnings of $6.4 million.
The Wine Steward tracked Vettriano is second most of the 6 ½-furlong trip. Under a patient ride from Rafael Santana, Jr. the bay colt rallied past the pacesetter with a furlong to run and drew off smartly to finish in 1:14.80 on a fast track.
The winner is owned by David Staudacher and Paradise Farms Corp.
“We were always high on this horse,” said Paradise Farms’s Peter Proscia. “We tried a few different things–going long, out of town–but truth be told, he loves New YorkY; we love New York and he made it happen today.”
The Wine Steward is now 5-4-1 in 13 starts and has earned $745,260. He was bred in New York by Sequel Thoroughbreds LLC, Lakland Farm & Mark Toothaker.
