Alan Porter’s 2026 Breeding Analysis for Goal Oriented

Goal Oriented ran a 108 Beyer, the fastest of the year by a three-year-old sprinter in stakes company in 2025 while winning the Malibu Stakes (G1). He is by stallion sensation Not This Time – the Leading Sire of Two-Year-Olds in 2025 – out of a multiple graded stakes winning half-sister to an Eclipse Award Champion, from the family of legendary sire, Blushing Groom.

Not This Time has enjoyed tremendous success with the Awesome Again branch of Deputy Minister. His Champion Turf Horse, Up to the Mark, is out of a mare by Awesome Again son, Ghostzapper, grade one winner Princess Noor is out of mare by Awesome Again son, Wilko, and millionaire Next is out of a mare by Awesome Again himself. This also suggests mares by Paynter and Oxbow.

Deputy Minister is Northern Dancer line horse, and Not This Time already has two stakes winners from the Sadler’s Wells branch of that line through Medaglia d‘Oro (sire of Violence and Warrior’s Reward) and Paddy O’Prado. These are both sons of El Prado, also sire of Kitten’s Joy and Artie Schiller. This line could also be tried through Galileo, represented in the U.S. by Noble Mission, Magician and Cape Blanco.

From the Danzig branch of Northern Dancer Not This Time has three stakes winners, including graded scorer Imaginationthelady, out of mares by War Front (sire of Declaration of War, The Factor, Summer Front, Air Force Blue, Jack Milton and Hit it a Bomb), and graded winner Giocoso out of a mare by Fastnet Rock, a son of Danehill. Other Danzig sources include Hard Spun, Exchange Rate, Belong to Me, Boundary (sire of Big Brown) and Langfuhr (sire of Lawyer Ron).

Out of mares from his own Storm Cat sire line, Not This Time has grade one winner Troubleshooting out of a mare by Into Mischief; graded stakes winner Dream On out of a mare by Discreet Cat (by Forestry, also sire of Shackleford); stakes winner In Our Time out of a mare by Cactus Ridge (by Hennessy, also sire of Henny Hughes and Johannesburg, and grandsire of Scat Daddy); and a stakes winner out of a mare by Lion Heart (sire of Kantharos and Uncaptured), a son of Tale of the Cat (also sire of Tale of Ekati and grandsire of Girvin).

Not This Time has Champion Epicenter and graded winner Simplification of a mare by Candy Ride (sire of Gun Runner and Twirling Candy) from the Fappiano line. On the cross with other Fappiano line mares there is a grade two winner by Not This Time out of a mare by Unbridled son, Empire Maker and a stakes winner out of a mare by his son Pioneerof the Nile (sire of American Pharoah, Cairo Prince and Classic Empire). There has also been success for the Not This Time/Fappiano cross through mares by Midnight Lute and Broken Vow. There is a graded winner from a mare by Unbridled’s Song, sire of Not This Time’s half-brother Liam’s Map, as well as a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Unbridled’s Song son, Rockport Harbor and a stakes winner out of a mare by another son, Songandaprayer. Unbridled’s Song can also be brought in through Cross Traffic, First Defence, Midshipman, Even the Score, Half Ours and Old Fashioned.

Fappiano is a Mr. Prospector line stallion, and Not This Time’s grade one winning sprint filly, Just One Time, is out of a mare by Speightstown (sire of Munnings) from the Gone West line. From this broodmare sire line, Not This Time also has a stakes winner out of a mare by a son of Mr. Greeley, suggesting Elusive Quality (sire of Quality Road), Grand Slam and Proud Citizen. 

From other branches of Mr Prospector there is a graded winner from a mare by Smart Strike (sire of Curlin, Lookin At Lucky and English Channel); and stakes winners out of mares by Street Sense and Street Hero (both by Street Cry, also sire of Street Boss) and City Zip and his son Bustin Stones. Not This Time’s grade one winner Rhetorical is out of a mare by Distorted Humor, who is sire of Jimmy Creed (broodmare sire of a Not This Time stakes winner); Maclean’s Music, (sire of Complexity); Alternation; Brethren and Khozan.

From the Kingmambo branch of Mr. Prospector, Not This Time has three stakes winners, including out of mares by Lemon Drop Kid and Henrythenavigator, and this might be particularly interesting for Goal Oriented whose dam is a granddaughter of Northern Afleet, a horse bred on a very similar cross to Kingmambo.

There are already ten stakes winners by Not This Time from A.P. Indy line mares. In addition to a stakes winner out of a mare by A.P. Indy himself, including a grade one winner out of a mare by Pulpit and three stakes winners, two graded out of mares by Pulpit son, Tapit. Pulpit is also sire of Sky Mesa, Stroll, American Freedom, Mr. Speaker and Sightseeing. Tapit could also be brought in through Constitution, Frosted, Tonalist, Tapiture, Cupid, Trappe Shot and Concord Point. Not This Time grade two winners Final Score and Magnitude are out of mares by Bernardini (sire of Stay Thirsty and To Honor and Serve). There is also a Not This Time graded stakes winner out of a mare by Jump Start, and stakes winners out of mares by Mineshaft (sire of Discreetly Mine and Dialed In) and Friends Lake. From the Roberto line, Not This Time has grade one winner Cy Fair and stakes winner Howling Time out of mares by Arch (sire of Blame, who should be interesting here) and a stakes winner by Red Ransom. Roberto could also be brought in through Dynaformer, sire of Brilliant Speed, Point of Entry and Temple City. Roberto is a Hail To Reason line horse, and from the Halo branch of this line, Not This Time has graded winner Abientot out of a mare by More Than Ready (sire of Daredevil, Verrazano and Ready’s Image).

Not This Time has grade one winner Sacred Wish out of mare Indian Charlie, and a stakes winner out of a mare by his son, Uncle Mo. Indian Charlie is also sire of Adios Charlie, Bwana Charlie, Liaison and Cinco Charlie and Uncle Mo is sire of Nyquist, Laoban and Outwork.
