Taiba has sales-topper at OBS January sale

January 28, 2026

A yearling filly from the first crop of Spendthrift stallion Taiba topped the OBS January Winter Mixed Sale on Tuesday when hip No. 80 brought a winning bid of $150,000.

Consigned by her breeder Beth Bayer, the gray/roan filly went to Marc Gunderson.

“I have loved this filly since she was born. She was all class and a sweet, level-headed filly,” said Bayer. “She’s done everything right the last four days at the sale. I kind of thought she would fall [in that price range]. I knew she had some value to her. You never know what’s going to happen until it does, but I was very pleased when it did.”

The filly is out of Tranquil Song, who is also the dam of multiple graded stakes winner and $1.8 million earner Isolate. Tranquil Song herself is a half-sister to a pair of stakes winners out of the multiple stakes winner Travelator.

Taiba, who won over $2.3 million in his brilliant career that included victories in the Pennsylvania Derby, Santa Anita Derby and Malibu S. all Grade 1 events. After breeding 369 mares in his first two seasons, Taiba is standing this year for $25,000.
