Cornucopian adds to huge weekend for Into Mischief
March 29, 2026

One day after a pair of Into Mischief colts won the Arkansas Derby (G1) and Florida Derby (G1), Cornucopian earned his first graded stakes win in Sunday’s San Carlos S. (G3) at Santa Anita Park.
The lightly-raced 4-year-old was for the last seven months of 2025 before returning Jan. 31 with a sharp allowance score. Much like he did in that race, Cornucopian sat just off pace set by Bartholdy, who sped through a half-mile in :44.03. Cornucopian made a three-wide bid for the lead midway on the turn, overtaking Listenupshance at the top of the stretch and then drawing away smartly in the final furlong to win by 2 ¾-lengths.
The final time of 1:20.71 was just a second off the track record.
“He’s full of energy and now he looks like he’s ready for something really big,” winning trainer Bob Baffert said. “This race really tightened him up. Now we can put him on the road and aim a little higher. I was hoping that he wouldn’t have to go that fast, but he is a good horse, he’s a beautiful horse. I’m just happy to have a good horse like him.”
Cornucopian is owned by the group of SF Racing, LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, LLC, Stonestreet Stables, LLC, Bashor Racing, LLC, Determined Stables, Robert Masterson, Tom Ryan, Waves Edge Capital, LLC, Catherine Donovan and Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings-Lessee. The bay colt sold to his owners for $1.1 million at the 2023 Keeneland September sale.
Bred by Three Chimneys Farm, LLC and Whisper Hill Farm, LLC, Cornucopian is a half-brother to three-time Grade 1 winner and millionaire Guarana, graded stakes winner Beatbox and stakes winner Magic Dance.
Cornucopian is the 97th lifetime graded stakes winner for Into Mischief, who leads all sires this year by graded winners and stakes winners.
