May 2, 2026
Bolero Bay repelled every challenge he faced in the $100,000 English Channel S. on Derby Day at Gulfstream Park to come home a 1 ½-length winner in the one-mile turf event for 3-year-olds.
From the first crop of Grade 1 winner Basin, Bolero Bay was making his stakes debut on Saturday. He caught a flyer out of the gate and was up two lengths after a quarter-mile. From the half-mile pole to the top of the stretch he was under serious pressure, but after turning for home, found another gear and won going away in 1:33.27 on the firm turf.
Bolero Bay upped his career bankroll to $102,170 for owner Mast Thoroughbreds. Bolero Bay has now has won half of his six starts.
Bred in Florida by Larry Alan Wynn, Bolero Bay is by Basin out of Essence of Audre, who is a half-sister to multiple Grade 3-winner Essence Hit Man and Grade 3-placed Eight Town. Bolero Bay is a half-brother to multiple stakes-winner G W’s Girl.
A top-three First-Crop sire of 2025 by stakes winners, Basin stands this year for $5,000 S&N.
