Into Mischief tops Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling sale with $4.2 million colt

Not only did Into Mischief have the sale-topper with his $4.2 million colt, the seven-time champion sire had three of the Tuesday session’s top five hips, as well as six of the top 10.

Into Mischief’s Tuesday results included four lots that brought at least $2.6 million, with the top three all selling to Boersma family’s Flying Dutchmen, who had Hunter Rankin bidding for them.

The sale-topper, hip No. 136, was consigned by Heartwood Farm, agent and was bred by Jeff Drown and Don Rachel.

“I thought he was the fanciest horse in the sale, if that makes any sense,” said Rankin. “Not saying that means he’s the best, but he definitely showed himself really, really well. And [Heartwood] prepared him great as they always do. So we just thought he would be very expensive, especially with that pedigree.”

The Kentucky-bred colt is out of All American Dream and is a full brother to Grade 1 winner Barnes, while third dam Dream Supreme was a two-time Grade 1 winner of over $1 million.

Slightly later in the evening hip No. 154, also consigned by Heartwood, was purchased for $3 million, again by Flying Dutchmen. The bay colt is the first foal out of Beyond Perfection, who is a half-sister to Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Always Dreaming and Grade 1 winner Hot Dixie Chick.

Flying Dutchmen’s Into Mischief trifecta concludes with hip No. 140, a colt from Four Star Sales , agent for Spendthrift Farm, with the final hammer price of $2.8 million.

The bay colt is the second foal out of Anacapa, who is a half-sister to Sorrento S. (G2) winner Amalfi Sunrise.

Into Mischief’s incredible average for the two-day sale was $2,172,222 from nine lots sold.
