Goldencents colt wins $295,000 Harrods Creek at Churchill Downs in stakes debut

Doublecents took the lead in the final furlong and outkicked Tagermeen to win Saturday’s $295,000 Harrods Creek S. for 3-year-olds at Churchill Downs by 1 ½ lengths, giving the Goldencents colt his first black type win.

Coming off a four-length allowance win a month ago, Doublecents was second behind Creole Chrome through fractions of :23.58 and :46.71. Turning for home, Tagermeen and Doublecents both made bids for the lead, and after the trio battled for more than a furlong, Doublecents asserted himself to secure the win, with Into Mischief’s Tagermeen a clear second.

“He tried really hard tonight,” jockey Francisco Arrieta said. “He broke well and I got him in a good position just off the leader. Down the lane he still had another gear left to hold everyone off.”

Doublecents is out of the Uncle Mo mare Moka Latte and was bred in Kentucky by Clark Brewster. With the win, Doublecents is 3-1-1 in six starts and has earned $317,926 for owner Keene Thoroughbreds LLC.

Goldencents, sire of 2024 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mystik Dan, has accounted for eight stakes horses this year and has been a top-25 national sire each of the last two years.
