Excitations heats up at Fair Grounds

February 2, 2017

Into Mischief’s latest star-in-the-making Excitations sped to a very sharp maiden special weight score Thursday at Fair Grounds (VIDEO).

The 3-year-old colt, who was beaten just a head in his Dec. 16 debut while earning an 87 Beyer Speed Figure, was not to be denied in Thursday’s six-furlong contest. After a very sharp break from post 1, Miguel Mena let bay colt settle behind the speed. Mena held his spot until the top of the stretch, when he sent Excitations around Olivia’s Uncle, then going on to win by 2 3/4-lengths under a hand ride.

The final time was 1:10.44 on fast main track, nearly identical time to his debut.

The winner was bred in Kentucky by Richard and Connie Snyder and is out of the six-time stakes-winning mare Summer Song, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Don’t Tell Sophia.

Excitations, who is a 2017 Triple Crown nominee, sold at the OBS Spring 2-year-old Sale for $335,000.
