Another Mystery battles to John B. Connally Turf Cup (G3) victory

January 30, 2022

Temple City’s multiple stakes winner Another Mystery earned his first graded win in Sunday’s $200,000 John B. Connally Turf Cup (G3) at Sam Houston Park, finishing on even terms with Fantasioso (ARG) in a three-horse photo.

Temple City, who is standing at Spendthrift Farm for $5,000 in 2022, has had an excellent start to the year with a pair of stakes winners as well as a pair of stakes-placed horses in January.

After winning a pair of black type races in 2021, 6-year-old Another Mystery kicked off this year in a thrilling renewal of the 1 ½-mile Connally. He spent the better part of the first mile of the race near the back of the 12-horse field, with Fantasioso just ahead of him.

After passing the one mile mark, Another Mystery began to gain ground while wide on the course. He was still in eighth at the top of the stretch, and it wasn’t until the final 100 yards, when he made one last push, that he hit the wire with Fantasioso, while third-place finisher Strong Tide was just a head behind the winners.

Another Mystery is owned and bred by Team Block and has racked up $358,000 in earnings from a record of 7-2-3 in 24 starts.
