January 17, 2021

Kentucky Derby (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Authentic is one of Into Mischief’s three individuals nominated in five categories for this year’s Eclipse Awards. The finalists were announced Saturday, and winners will be revealed during a virtual Eclipse Awards ceremony hosted by Spendthrift Farm on Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. (ET).

Authentic, who capped his incredible season with a record-setting performance in the Breeders’ Cup, is a finalist for both Horse of the Year and 3-year-old Male. Owned by Spendthrift, MyRaceHorse Stable, Madaket Stables and Starlight Racing, was retired to Spendthrift following the Breeders’ Cup and will take up stud duties in 2021. He is standing this year for $75,000 S&N.

Into Mischief’s Gamine was also a dual nominee in the 3-year-old Female and Female Sprinter categories. Gamine’s jaw-dropping performances included an 18 ¾-length romp in the Acorn S. (G1), a seven-length win in the Test S. (G1), and another record-setting win in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1), winning by 6 ¼-lengths and earning a 110 Beyer Speed Figure. Gamine is owned by Michael Petersen, who purchased her for $1.8 million at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old sale.

Dayoutoftheoffice is Into Mischief’s fifth finalist, in the 2-year-old Female category. A winner of three of four starts, the dark bay filly won both the Schuylerville S. (G3) and the Frizette S. (G1) before a close second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). She is owned by Blazing Meadows Farm and Siena Farm, the latter also her breeder.

In other categories, the owners of Authentic are also nominated for Owner of the year Eclipse, and the brilliant mare Monomoy Girl, who Spendthrift purchased for $9.5 million at the Keeneland November sale, is a finalist for both Horse of the Year and Older Female, the latter she is almost assured of winning following her undefeated 2020 campaign. Monomoy Girl won the 2018 Eclipse for 3-year-old Female and is scheduled to race this year.
