Into Mischief’s 4-year-old colt Barraza stretched his winning streak to four straight with a 2 ¾-length victory in Sunday’s $100,000 San Simeon S. (G3) on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita Park.

Barraza is the seventh stakes winner in the first seven weeks of the year for Into Mischief, and his fourth graded winner of 2022.

Barraza, ridden by Daisuke Fukumoto, was last in the field of eight after the break as Bombard led through a quarter-mile in :22.89. He began to make up ground in the next quarter, then had to go extremely wide as he crossed the dirt course and straightened for home. Barraza was full of run in the stretch and stormed by the field to win going away in 1:12.66 for the 6 ½-furlongs on a firm turf course.

“I think (Barraza) is just developing,” Cerin said. “He’ll go two turns again and I think he’ll do it just as well. I had full faith in Daisuke. I left it up to him, to just use his judgment and just sit wherever he wanted to.”

Barraza has a 5-1-2 record from 13 starts and has earnings of $257,700 for owners Holly and David Wilson.

Barraza was bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm out of the multiple graded stakes winner and millionaire Halo Dolly. He is the second foal out of his dam, who has also produced an unnamed 3-year-old full sister to Barraza and is in foal to Authentic.
