Breeders’ Cup Mischief

November 1, 2018

Into Mischief, the sire of two-time Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) and current Spendthrift stallion Goldencents, will have three shots at this year’s Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) on Nov. 3 at Churchill Downs.

Golden Mischief, Mia Mischief and Miss Sunset form a formidable trio set to contest the seven furlong affair, which is the first Breeders’ Cup race on Saturday at noon.

Miss Sunset, who has won 10 of 19 lifetime starts, drew post 2 for trainer Jeff Bonde. She won Keeneland’s Raven Run S. (G2) and finished second by a nose in the Madison S. (G1), both at the seven furlong distance. She’ll be ridden by Kent Desormeaux.

Golden Mischief rides a three race winning streak, all in stakes, into Saturday. She captured the Oct. 6 Thoroughbred Club of America S. (G2) at Keeneland, and like Miss Sunset, finds the winner’s circle quite often, with 10 wins in 21 starts. Trained by Brad Cox for Juddmonte Farms, she’ll break from post 5 and be ridden by Florent Geroux.

Mia Mischief, who won the Eight Belles S. (G2) at Churchill on May 4, is in post 8 with Rafael Santana aboard. The 3-year-old filly has finished worse than second only once in her 10 lifetime outings for trainer Steve Asmussen. She’ll likely use her natural speed early to see if anyone in the 14-horse field is willing to go with her.

Saturday also marks the return of Into Mischief’s brilliant 3-year-old colt Audible, who runs in the $200,000 Cherokee Run S., which is just before the Filly and Mare Sprint. Trained by Todd Pletcher, Audible won both the Holy Bull S. (G2) and Florida Derby (G1) in style before a gallant third in the Kentucky Derby (G1) won by Triple Crown winner Justify. Audible became Into Mischief’s fifth millionaire with his Derby finish.
