Goldencents’ top handicap horse By My Standard remained undefeated in 2020 after an emphatic victory in Saturday’s $600,000 Oaklawn H. (G2), overcoming post position 12 to win by 1 ¾-lengths over Warrior’s Charge.

Winner of the New Orleans Classic (G2) in late March, last year’s Louisiana Derby (G2) winner is now 5-2-1 in nine starts and has earned $1,281,910. Saturday’s $360,000 payday made By My Standards the second seven-figure earner for Goldencents. The Spendthrift Farm stallion leads all Third-Crop sires by stakes wins and winners.

Despite the wide post position, Gabriel Saez hustled By My Standards out of the gate into second just behind Warrior’s Charge going into the first turn. Tracking the pacesetter through six furlongs in 1:10.67, By My Standards took over the lead at the head of the stretch and won going away in 1:47.80 for the nine furlongs.

“He stepped up against a great field of horses,” said winning trainer Bret Calhoun. “Lot of depth in it. He just kind of confirmed what we’ve been thinking of him. It’s nice for him to prove it on the racetrack. The 12-hole might not have been ideal, but he overcame it. Gabe did a great job of getting position in the first turn. You didn’t want to be overconfident at that point and time, but I found myself feeling pretty comfortable early in the race, once he got that position away from the gate.”

By My Standards is owned by Allied Racing Stable, LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Don Ladd.
