Can the Man shuttling to Spendthrift Australia

April 30, 2015

Can the Man, a Grade 1-placed two-year-old and Grade 3-winning three-year-old by rising sire Into Mischief, will shuttle to Spendthrift Australia and participate in the farm’s renowned Share The Upside Program in 2015.

Can the Man’s Share The Upside fee will be $5,500 Inc GST, and he will also be offered at $3,850 Inc GST on a standard live foal contract at Spendthrift Australia, where he becomes the newest addition to a growing inaugural stallion roster.

“Can the Man was a precocious, Grade 1 performer, and he’s the best-looking and best-bred son of our emerging sire Into Mischief,” said B. Wayne Hughes, owner of Spendthrift Australia. “We believe Can the Man will offer Australian breeders a lot of value, especially through our Share The Upside Program. He’s really is a good-looking horse, and we think Australian breeders are going to like what they see.”

A $320,000 sale-topping two-year-old purchase, Can the Man hails from the Grade 2-winning Danzig mare Smolensk, a half-sister to American Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour, and granddaughter of American Broodmare of the Year Best In Show. It’s also the family of Redoute’s Choice, Al Maher, Good Journey, Domesday, Umatilla, Hurricane Sky, and Spinning World – all of which were successful stallions in Australia.

Can the Man impressively won his debut at Del Mar, before placing in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) in his second start despite a troubled trip. The precocious two-year-old colt went on to capture the Speakeasy S. at Santa Anita in 1:09 2/5 for 1200 meters to close out his juvenile campaign. In his first start as a three-year-old, Can the Man scored his biggest win in the form of a wire-to-wire victory in the Affirmed S. (G3) at Santa Anita.

Share The Upside is a straightforward, breeder-friendly program. There are a limited number of opportunities per stallion, and the offer is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Breeders can secure a spot with a $275 Inc GST one-time deposit, and then sign two stands and nurses contracts to breed a mare in 2015 and 2016. Once two foals have been produced and the stud fees have been paid on both live foals, the breeder earns a lifetime breeding right starting as early as the 2017 breeding season. The breeding right continues annually and throughout the breeding life of the stallion, and there are no further expenses to the breeder associated with the care and advertising of the stallion.
