Cloud Computing flies high during OBS 2yo sale opener

Cloud Computing’s $560,000 colt was the second-highest price paid for an individual by a First-Crop sire during Tuesday’s session of the OBS March 2-year-old Sale, trailing only fellow Spendthrift stallion Bolt d’Oro’s $600,000 colt.

Cloud Computing closed the day with an excellent average price of $216,250, more than 43 times his current stud fee of $5,000.

Consigned by Paul Sharp, agent, hip No. 190 had breezed a bullet furlong of :09 4/5 during the Under Tack show. The winning bidder was the partnership of West Point Thoroughbreds and Mike Talla.

“He was everything we liked, his breeze, his looks,” Talla said. “We are thinking this could be an up-and-coming stallion. We are taking a chance, but he checked all the boxes. If he was by a better known, more experienced sire, he would have been over $1 million. We are really excited we got him.”

Paul Sharp and Liz Crow purchased the dark bay colt under their Whetstone Stable partnership for $50,000 at the Fasig-Tipton July Sale.

“I think he has a chance of being a very good sire,” Sharp said of Cloud Computing. “We have two more at the farm. They both train very similar to this horse. Their composure is something that I really like. They seem to take everything in stride. I am sure, given a good book of mares, that Cloud Computing will be a good sire.”

Cloud Computing, who won the 2017 Preakness S. (G1), has bred an average of 121 mare in his first three seasons. He has four lots remaining to sell during Wednesday’s closing session.
