Coal Front, whose first crop are yearlings of 2022, was one of only two First-Crop sires to have a six-figure seller during Tuesday’s opening session of the OBS October Yearlings sale.

Hip No. 131, consigned by Richard Kent’s Kaizen Sales as agent for Spendthrift Farm, sold to Janice Geeding for $105,000.

The dark bay colt is out of the stakes-performing More Than Ready mare Fairy Star (AUS) and is from the family of Grade 1 winners St. Gallen and Bulla Borghese.

At the conclusion of the first day of the auction, Coal Front’s sales average was over 14 times his stud fee. He has seven lots cataloged for Wednesday’s session.

Coal Front was a six-time graded stakes winner of more than $1.8 million. Remarkably, he won those six races at five different tracks and at five different distances from six furlongs to 1 1/16-miles.
