Spendthrift Farm’s Coal Front, the five-time graded stakes-winning millionaire-miler, had his first mare confirmed in foal.

The Wildcat Heir mare Defying Gravity scanned in foal on March 10th for breeder Ken Doyen at Sparks View Farm in Paris, KY. She hails from the immediate family of multiple graded stakes winner and sire Too Much Bling.

An earner of $1,825,280, Coal Front captured graded stakes at five different distances – from six furlongs to 1 1/16 miles on dirt – and at five different racetracks. After a dominant maiden win on debut at Keeneland and allowance victory over eventual Grade 1 winner Patternrecognition at Belmont in his second start, the striking dark bay colt stayed undefeated with a victory in the 6 ½-furlong Amsterdam S. (G2) at Saratoga, earning a 104 Beyer. He closed out his 3-year-old season with a win in the six-furlong Gallant Bob S. (G3) at Parx, earning a 107 Beyer – one of the fastest of the year by a sophomore.

Coal Front won the seven-furlong Mr. Prospector S. (G3) at Gulfstream as a 4-year-old and carried his top form into 2019, winning the 1 1/16-mile, $500,000 Razorback S. (G3) at Oaklawn and $1,500,000 Godolphin Mile (G2) at Meydan.

A $575,000 2-year-old purchase, Coal Front was victorious in eight of 13 lifetime starts before retiring to Spendthrift where he’s standing his first season for a stands-and-nurses fee of $5,000. Coal Front is also participating in the farm’s renowned “Share The Upside” breeding program for a fee of $7,500, and breeders can earn a lifetime breeding right to him after producing one live foal and paying the stud fee.
