Dominus filly strikes in $100K Ginger Punch S.

June 16, 2018

Bitacora rallied impressively in the stretch to win the $100,000 Ginger Punch S. by a half-length on Saturday afternoon, the first stakes win for the 4-year-old Dominus filly.

Second in this same race a year ago, Bitacora upped her lifetime earnings to $242,275 for owners Paradise Farms Corp., Walder Racing and Marshall Mack.

With an impressive 68% winners from starters, third-crop sire Dominus was bred to 145 mares in 2017, by far his largest crop to date.

Bitacora was unhurried out of the gate and settled at the back of the field through the first half-mile, which went in :49.06. Despite the relatively slow pace, Bitacora began to make up ground around the final turn, then moved from the rail to the outside in upper stretch. In full flight in the final furlong, she sailed past Unbridled Courage in the final sixteenth to win in hand in 1:42 flat on the firm turf.

The winner was bred in Florida by Brenda Jones from the multiple stakes-placed mare Shirmp Tempura.
