Farrell a millionaire after Shuvee S. (G3) victory

July 29, 2018

Farrell topped off a terrific weekend for Malibu Moon on Sunday when the 4-year-old filly captured the $200,000 Shuvee S. (G3) in front-running style.

The victory pushed Farrell’s career earnings over the $1 million mark and came one day after Malibu Moon’s top-class sprinter Ransom the Moon took the Bing Crosby S. (G1) at Del Mar.

Ridden in the Shuvee by Channing Hill, Farrell was sent to the lead soon after the break and maintained a two-length lead for the first seven furlongs. In the stretch, a trio of foes presented a stiff challenge, but Farrell dug in to defeat Wow Cat (CHI) by a neck, with Verve’s Tale a head back in third.

“She’s such a good (filly). She deserves to win a race like this up here (at Saratoga),” Hill said. “I can’t say too much bad about her.”

The winner is trained by Wayne Catalano, who said a possible target could be the Aug. 25 Ketel One Ballerina Stakes (G1).

Bred in Kentucky by her owner Coffee Pot Stables, Farrell has an 8-2-2 record in 17 starts, with earnings of $1,064,777, including five graded stakes.
