Gas Station Sushi wins Beverly Lewis S. with ease

Into Mischief’s 3-year-old filly Gas Station Sushi outclassed her foes in the Beverly J. Lewis S. Saturday at Los Alamitos, rolling home by six lengths while geared down under Mario Gutierrez.

Winner of the Beaumont S. this spring at Keeneland, Gas Station Sushi was making her first start since the May 4th Eight Belles S. (G2) at Churchill Downs.

Ridden very confidently by Gutierrez, Gas Station Sushi was caught up in an early speed duel, with the first quarter-mile going in :21.71. Despite an ultra-quick half-mile in :43.91, Gas Station Sushi shook off her competition and cleared off powerfully to get the six furlongs in a rapid 1:08.54.

“I had the opportunity to work her at Del Mar last week and that gave me a lot of confidence,” Gutierrez said. “I thought there would be a little more speed, but she broke really well and I just went on with it. This is a very nice filly.”

According to her connections, Gas Station Sushi’s future targets include the La Brea Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park in late December, and more immediately, the Oct. 20 Lexus Raven Run Stakes (G2) at Keeneland.

Bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm, out of Five Star Daydream, Gas Sation Sushi now has a 3-0-1 record from four starts and $187,600 in earnings for Riley Racing Stables, Jason Tackitt, Megan Tackitt, Mike Henson, and Tiger Racing Stable. She was a $240,000 purchase out of the 2017 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company March Sale of 2-year-olds in Training.

She was the second stakes winner of the day for top-five General Sire Into Mischief, following Into Trouble’s score in the Arlington-Washington Lassie at Arlington Park.
