Goldencents scored his first stakes winner and vaulted to the top of the 2018 First-Crop Sire list on Saturday when Pickett romped to a nine-length win in the $75,000 D. S. Shine Young Futurity at Evangeline Downs (VIDEO).

The dark bay got plenty of pressure in the first half-mile, which went in :45.87, but responded with zeal in the stretch, drawing off with complete authority to stop the timer in 1:05.37 for the 5 1/2-furlongs on the fast main track.

Pickett, who was Goldencents’ first winner when he broke his maiden on May 30, has won both his starts and earned $59,400 for Charles Carlton. He was bred in Louisiana by his namesake William Pickett.

Goldencents solidified his hold on the top spot on the Freshman Sire list on Sunday when another of his six winners, Silvercents, finished second in the $100,000 Texas Thoroughbred Futurity at Lone Star Park.
