Goldencents colt debuts a winner at Meydan

After a stellar 2018 when he had a First-Crop leading 29 winners, Goldencents kicked off January with another excellent debut winner when Moshaher powered to a six-length maiden win at Meydan Racecourse on the first Saturday of 2019.

The newly-turned 3-year-old couldn’t have been more impressive in the 1,600 meter (about 1 mile) race on the main track. After stalking the pace for the better part of six furlongs, Moshaher easily moved to the lead without urging and was full of run in the stretch to come home by an official margin of 6 1/4-lengths.

“We were very hopeful coming into the race, because his work at home has been exceptional, but you just never know if they will reproduce that,” winning trainer Doug Watson said. “He did not trial, as he arrived a bit late, but we did work him out of the gates and he did everything right. We think he is a nice horse, so it is nice to see him win like that first time out.”

Moshaher is owned by H & B and was bred in Kentucky by Darlene and Jeff Wahman. His dam Miss Valiant is a half-sister to Mother Goose S. (G1) winner Fleet Renee.

Moshaher’s next start will likely come in the UAE 2000 Guineas (G3), the local major prep for the $2.5 million UAE Derby (G2) in late March.
