Goldencents colt sharp in $100K Mark McDermott S.

Newstome scored a handy three-length victory in the $100,000 Mark McDermott S. on Oct. 16 at Presque Isle Downs, the first stakes victory for the 2-year-old Goldencents colt.

Last year’s leading First-Crop sire by winners, Goldencents is atop the 2019 Second-Crop sire list with over $4.6 million in progeny earnings, eight black type wins and 72 winners to date. After standing at Spendthrift for $20,000 this past season, his 2020 fee is TBA.

Newstome, owned by Marie Trombetta, got a stalking trip under Antonio Gallardo. Third through the first three furlongs, the gray moved up to challenge for the lead turning for home, then drew off late to get the six furlongs in 1:09.68 (VIDEO).

Newstome was bred by Equivine Farm and is from the family of Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) winner War Chant.
