Honest Mischief the 20th stakes winner of 2019 for Into Mischief

November 30, 2019

Juddmonte Farms Inc. Grade 2-placed homebred Honest Mischief ran down leader Chilly in Charge in deep stretch to earn his first career stakes victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Force the Pass City of Laurel S. at Laurel Park.

The 3-year-old is the 20th stakes winner, and second in the past three days, for Into Mischief. With over $17.6 million in progeny earnings, and a record-breaking 204 winners to date, Into Mischief is far and away the leading sire in North America.

Honest Mischief had a tough trip in the seven-furlong race, but got the job done with a daring move in mid-stretch. After tracking in fourth most of the way, he was caught behind a wall of horses until he found a narrow opening with a furlong to run. The bay shot through the gap and collared Chilly in Charge to win by a neck in 1:23.06 on a fast track.

“I just wanted to sit in a nice stalking spot and be patient with him,” jockey Trevor McCarthy said. “I let him sit in the pocket and made one move with him, and it really was an exciting race. I was just very proud of the horse and so thankful for the privilege to ride him today. I’m very pleased to get the job done and ride such a nice horse.”

Honest Mischief, who placed in the Amsterdam S. (G2) this summer, is 3-1-1 in six starts and has earned $191,800. He is a son of the Grade 1-winning sprinter Honest Lady, who is also the dam of Forego H. (G1) winner Fist Defence.
