Into Mischief 2yo romps in Tampa’s Inaugural S.

December 16, 2017

Tricks to Doo was much the best in Saturday’s $100,000 Inaugural S. for 2-year-olds at Tampa Bay Downs, drawing off to 7 1/4-length win in the first stakes victory for the son of Into Mischief.

Into Mischief now has 18 stakes winners this year, with his progeny earnings topping the $10.5 million mark.

Tricks to Doo had broke his maiden by an emphatic 5 3/4-lengths on Oct. 27, and was even more impressive this time out, taking full command with three furlongs to go, running away from the field to stop the timer in an excellent 1:09.58 for the six furlongs.

“The plan was to try to sit off the speed a little, but he was dragging me to the lead on the backside and I didn’t want to start fighting with him,” jockey Daniel Centeno said. “I got him to relax a little bit, and when he felt a little pressure on the outside at the 3/8s pole (from eventual third-place finisher Twin Farms), I asked him and he took off.”

Trainer Arnaud Delacour said the $125,000 Pasco S., at Tampa on Jan. 20 is a likely target for Tricks to Doo’s next start. “I think that would be a great stepping stone, if he is ready,” Delacour said.

The winner was bred by D. C. Goff and is owned by Lael Stable. The bay colt is the latest foal out of Doolittle, who is a half-sister to Prioress S. (G1) winner Her Smile. Lael was the winning bidder, at $600,000, for Tricks to Doo at the 2017 OBS March Sale.
