Winchell Thoroughbreds went to $1.3 million for Into Mischief’s hip No. 177 during Monday’s session of the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling sale, the top price for a colt during the opening day of the Sept. 13-24 auction.

Consigned and bred by Greg Goodman’s Mt. Brilliant Farm, the bay colt is the first foal out of the Irish-bred Hard Spun mare Superioritycomplex.

“Into Mischief is great, said Goodman. (This colt) has always been outstanding. He’s always done everything right. A calm horse, smart, we’re really happy with him and we’re really happy Mr. Winchell got him and that he’s going to a good home.”

The bay colt’s third dam is Yorkshire Oaks winner Hellenic (G1), who in turn produced the great turf mare Islington (IRE), the champion Grass Mare and Breeders’ Cup winner in North American, and multiple Group 1 winner and Highweight in Europe.

Into Mischief closed out the day with an average price of $647,727 from 11 lots sold, with each induvial bringing no less than $325,000. The sale continues Tuesday with six lots cataloged for the champion sire.
