Into Mischief leads all sires with seven Breeders’ Cup entries in 2023

November 2, 2023

Into Mischief will have seven starters in five different races over the Nov. 3-4 Breeders’ Cup Championships, the most for any sire this year.

Into Mischief also is currently tied with More Than Ready and Tapit by lifetime Breeders’ Cup winners, with seven a piece.

The action starts off for the Spendthrift stallion with Timberlake in Friday’s $2 million Juvenile (G1). Timberlake is one of the early favorites after his dominating score in the Oct. 7 Champagne S. (G1). He has drawn post 4 in the field of 11 and is owned by Siena Farm LLC and WinStar Farm LLC, who purchased him for $350,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling sale. Timberlake was bred by St. Elias Stables, LLC.

Into Mischief’s Saturday sextet begins with the duo of Clearly Unhinged and Three Witches in the $1 million Filly & Mare Sprint (G1), race 5. Clearly Unhinged, in post 2, has never been worse than second in four one-turn starts. She was beaten just a head in the Test S. (G1), regarded as the most prestigious 3-year-old filly sprint race in the country. The bay filly is owned by her breeder Rock Brothers Racing LLC.

In post 8 is Three Witches, who has won her past two starts, most recently the Princess Rooney S. (G3). Three Witches is owned by e Fiver Racing Thoroughbreds and was bred by Machmer Hall in Kentucky.

In the following race, the $2 million Mile (G1), Gina Romantica will face the boys in a full field of 14. Drawing post 2, Gina Romantica’s Beyer Speed Figure of 105 for winning last month’s First Lady S. (G1) at Keeneland is the highest last-race number of any horse in the field. A winner of over $1.1 million, Gina Romantica is owned by Peter Brant and was bred by Machmer Hall. The 4-year-old filly sold for $1.025 million as a yearling at Keeneland.

The following race on the card, the $2 million Distaff (G1) features Into Mischief’s duo of Hoosier Philly and Pretty Mischievous. The former drew post 1 in the field of 11 going 1 1/8-miles. Multiple stakes winner Hoosier Philly is owned by Gold Standard Racing Stable and was bred by Candy Meadows LLC.

Pretty Mischievous in post three, has proven to be one of the most versatile 3-year-old fillies of 2023. She won the Kentucky Oaks (G1) at nine furlongs and the Test S. (G1) at seven panels, and the one-mile Acorn S. (G1) between those two races. Pretty Mischievous, a Godolphin LLC homebred, has earned nearly $2 million to date.

Into Mischief’s final potential runner of the day, Lane Way, is on the also-eligible list in the last Breeders’ Cup race on the card, the $1 million Turf Sprint (G1). Lane Way is owned by MyRacehorse and is trained by Richard Mandella. Winner of Santa Anita’s Eddie D. S. (G2) last time out, Lane Way will need three scratches to make the body of the race.
