Jimmy Creed gets his second stakes winner in three days

August 3, 2022

Latigo gave Jimmy Creed his second stakes winner in the first three days of August when the 3-year-old captured the $250,000 Governor’s S. at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Wednesday.

The victory came just two days after Conagher took Housebuster S. at Colonial Downs, earning the 3-year-old colt a trip to the Allen Jerkens S. (G1) at Saratoga later this month. Jimmy Creed’s 3-year-old filly Habuiah also placed in the Indiana First Lady S. on Aug. 3, giving him seven stakes horses on the year.

Latigo, who had placed in the Hoosier Breeders’ Sophomore S. in late June, dueled with New Year’s Fever through the first half-mile, then began to pull clear around the final turn. He was up by three lengths in mid-stretch and came home a 2 ½-length winner in 1:39.26 on a “good” main track.

Latigo races for Spiess Stable LLC and Randy Klopp, who is also his trainer. His record now stands at 4-0-1 in six starts, with earnings of $227,375. The chestnut was bred by Deann & Greg Baer.
