Katies Spirit another debut MdSpWt winner for Mitole

Mitole, who currently heads the First-Crop Sire list, got his third MdSpWt winner on July 4 at Lone Star Park when Katies Spirit drew away late to score a 2 ¼-length victory in the 5 ½-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies (WATCH RACE).

Katies Spirit was no more than two lengths from the front in the early stages. She was three-wide on the turn and took over the lead coming into the stretch, then pulled clear in the final furlong for a clear-cut victory.

The winner is owned by Mark Norman and Norman Stables LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Susan King. The bay filly is out of Illegal Search, who is a sister to a trio of stakes winners. Katie’s Spirit sold for $87,000 at this year’s OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training.

Mitole also got his first U. S. stakes horse over the holiday weekend when the filly V V’s Dream, who was her sire’s first winner, placed second in the $225,000 Debutante S. at Ellis Park.
