Life Is Good, Gamine named Eclipse finalists for Into Mischief

Into Mischief’s duo of Life Is Good and Game both were named finalist for a 2021 Eclipse Award when the nominees were announced on Saturday.

The Award winners will be revealed at the Feb. 10 ceremony to be held at Santa Anita Park.

Gamine, who was the 2020 Eclipse winner in the Female Sprinter category, is once again up for that award, while Life Is Good is a finalist in the 3-year-old Male category.

Gamine, who was recently retired by her owner Michael Lund Petersen, had a dynamic campaign that included four graded stakes wins in five starts, with victories coming in the Derby City Distaff S. (G1), Ballerina S. (G1), Great Lady M S. (G2), and Las Flores S. (G3). She finished her remarkable career with nine wins from 11 starts, with earnings of $1,771,500. She is Into Mischief’s lifetime highest-earning filly.

Life Is Good was easily one of the most dynamic horses in any division last year. Despite missing several lucrative spring/summer months, he managed to win four of five graded stakes, his only blemish a neck defeat to future Spendthrift stallion Jackie’s Warrior in the Allen Jerkens S. (G1).

Life Is Good kicked off the year on Jan. 2 with a win in the Sham S. (G3), his first stakes outing, the rolled by eight lengths in the San Felipe S. (G2). He returned in late August in the Jerkens, then put together two terrific performances in the fall, winning both the Kelso H. (G2) and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) by more than five lengths.

Life Is Good is scheduled to make his 2022 debut Jan. 29 in the Pegasus World Cup (G1) at Gulfstream Park.
