Malibu Moon gets 10th stakes winner of 2013

October 5, 2013

Madly Truly found running room in deep stretch to capture Saturday’s $150,000 Grade 3 Mazarine S. at Woodbine to become Malibu Moon’s tenth stakes winner of 2013. With over $8.3 million in progeny earnings, Malibu Moon is fourth on the General Sire list.

Madly Truly, owned by John Oxley and trained by Mark Casse, had to wait for racing room behind horses for the better part of the1 1/16-mile contest. Near the top of the stretch, Patrick Husbands angled off the rail and got up in time to score a one-length win in a final time of 1:44.89.

“Last time (Sept. 14 in the Grade 2 Natalma S.) we had three horses in the race and swinging for home all three were together and I was in the middle,” recalled Husbands. “I kept waiting and waiting and they got away from me down the lane and she just got beat a length. I told Mark Casse’s assistant that she was much the best and it was unfortunate how the race unfolded.”

Madly Truly, bred in Kentucky by Castleton Lyons & Killboy Estate, banked $90,000 in victory, while improving her record to 2-0-1 from five career starts. Casse purchased the filly on behalf of Oxley for $110,000 at the 2012 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Summer Yearling sale.
