Mighty Mischief took the lead soon after the break and never looked back in Saturday’s $200,000 Chick Lang S. (G3), winning by 1 ¼-lengths in the stakes debut for the 3-year-old Into Mischief colt.

Allowed to set relatively easy fractions of :23.16 and :45.97 in the six-furlong sprint, Mighty Mischief had plenty in the tank for the stretch run as he pulled away from Willy Boi at the top of the stretch. Stablemate Jaxon Traveler came late as a non-threatening second, while the winner stopped the timer in 1:09.74 on the fast Pimlico racetrack.

“This is a nice horse,” said winning rider Rafael Santana Jr. “We have a lot of confidence in him. We’ve always loved this horse from Day 1. He’s improved a lot. I knew he was going to accelerate for home, and I just waited for company to come back to me. And when they came close to me, I had a lot left.”

Mighty Mischief is owned by his breeders Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt and is now 3-1-0 in four starts and has earned $255,200.
