Miss Sunset takes Sweet Life S. on front end

February 12, 2017

Despite getting pressure for nearly the entire trip, Miss Sunset repelled all her challengers to score a front-running victory in the $75,000 Sweet Life S. Sunday at Santa Anita Park.

The 3-year-old Into Mischief filly, who took the $150,000 Generous Portion S. last August at Del Mar, has now won three of her four starts and earned $183,585 for co-owners Alan Klein and Philip Lebherz. She is also Into Mischief’s fifth stakes horse and 20th winner overall of 2017.

Santa Anita’s downhill turf course normally favors closers, but Miss Sunset overcame the trend with a very game effort. After a half-mile in :44.09, she had a two-length lead. Miss Sugars (GB), who was last early, made a late charge, but the winner held her off to win by a half-length in 1:13.09 for the 6 1/2-furlongs.
