Miss Temple City bests the boys in Maker’s 46 Mile (G1)

Temple City’s stellar 4-year-old filly Miss Temple City turned in the best performance of her career on Friday at Keeneland with a 1 1/4-length win in the $300,000 Maker’s 46 Mile (G1), defeating males and simultaneously earning her first graded stakes victory.
Miss Temple City is also the first Grade 1 winner for her sire, who co-incidentally is the only Third-Crop Sire of 2016 to have a Grade 1 winner.
Already graded-placed on five occasions before Friday’s contest, Miss Temple City was making her first start since Keeneland’s QE Cup (G1) in October. Away well in third, the 4-year-old tracked the pace Heart to Heart through six-furlongs in 1:10.07. Drayden Van Dyke shifted Miss Temple City to the outside to engage Heart to Heart, forging past her foe at the furlong pole to pull clear late.
The final time on the firm turf was an excellent 1:34.09, just three-fifths of the second off the track record.
“(I had an) ideal trip. Couldn’t have asked for a better trip,” said Van Dyke. “(When I asked her to respond) she took off like a rocket. She’s such a nice filly.”
With the win, Miss Temple City pushed her career earnings to $562,799, making her the lifetime leading earner for her sire. She was bred in Kentucky by Bobfeld Bloodstock and is owned by Sagamore Farm, Allen Rosenblum, and The Club Racing LLC.
