Multiple Grade 1 winner Mor Spirit was represented by the top-priced yearling colt during Wednesday’s closing session of the 2021 OBS Mixed sale when hip No. 616 brought a winning bid of $115,000.

Winner of the stallion-making Metropolitan Mile H. (G1) as well as the Los Alamitos Futurity (G1), Mor Spirit’s first crop are yearlings of 2021.

Bred and consigned by Beth Bayer, the dark bay went to Donato Lanni, agent. Lanni also purchased Mor Spirit for $650,000 out of the 2015 Fasig-Tipton March Select Sale of 2-year-olds in Training.

“He was a cool horse,” said Lanni. “When you lock onto a nice horse, you have to stretch a little bit more. He is just a good-looking, athletic racehorse. I just hope we get lucky.

“I was involved with the sire and he did remind me a lot of his sire,” Lanni added. “Overall, I thought the Mor Spirits looked really nice. He was just a tremendous racehorse, a really fast horse.”

The colt is out of Cat Be Nimble and through his third dam related to Grade 1 winner Home at Last and Grade 1-placed Indy Groove.

After covering a combined 312 mares in his first two seasons at stud, Mor Spirit is standing the 2021 season for $5,000 S&N.
