Just eight days after breaking his maiden, Mounsieur Coco became Bolt d’Oro’s first stakes winner with a 4 ½-length romp on Sunday in the Proud Man S. at Gulfstream Park.

Bolt d’Oro is now tied for the top sport on the First-Crop sire list by stakes horses, with five, and is second by winners, progeny earnings and graded stakes horses.

J R’s Pride was fastest out of the gate in Sunday’s 5 ½-furlong race, with Mounsieur Coco pressing him through a fast quarter-mile in :21.95. Mounsieur Coco took the top spot with ease with three furlongs to run and was never threatened from there to the wire, finishing in 1:04.16 under a hand-ride on the Tapeta surface.

St. George Stable LLC owns Mounsieur Coco, who has won two of three starts and earned $64,210. The bay colt was bred by Rose Hill Farm and sold to his owner for $85,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

“He was the best of the 2-year-olds we had. He had very good workouts. He is a very consistent horse,” Gutierrez added.

Mounsieur Coco’s dam Cooking Mama has also produced black type winners Mojo Man and Fight to Glory.
