January 7, 2015

Spendthrift Farm’s Flat Out, the three-time Grade 1 winner of $3,645,383 on the racetrack, sired his first reported foal Friday, January 2 when a dark bay or brown filly was born at Six Gables Farm in Tottenham, ON.

Bred by Susan Y. Foreman, the filly is out of the young Cowboy Cal mare Birthday Cake.

Flat Out retired to stud last year as the all-time leading earner from the A.P. Indy sire line. A six-time graded stakes winner, Flat Out captured back to back Jockey Club Gold Cups (G1) at Belmont, and he ended his career on a high note with an impressive victory in the Cigar Mile (G1) at Aqueduct.

By Flatter, Flat Out retired sound to Spendthrift after 29 career starts. He bred 169 mares in his first book in 2014, ranking him as the second most popular first-year stallion a year ago. Flat Out is set to stand his second season at Spendthrift for a fee of $10,000 S&N.
