Mitole’s $225,000 colt, Hip 61, at the 2023 OBS 2 year old in training Sale – Z
Champion Mitole’s first crop of runners had an excellent day in the sales ring at OBS on Monday, with four lots selling for an average of $170,000, more than 11 times his stud fee.
First to break the $200,000 barrier for the Spendthrift stallion was hip No. 61, a colt consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. and purchased by the partnership of Bill & Corinne Heiligbrodt (who raced Mitole) and Jackpot Farm.
The chestnut colt’s dam is the stakes winner Sophia’s Song, whose dam Dreamscape is a half-sister to champion Housebuster.
“Mitole has some really fast ones here so I want to buy all the fast ones here. Because if we own them, we won’t have to face the really fast ones in the races!” Bill Heiligbrodt said with a laugh. “We’re thinking down the road.”
Hip No. 277, the penultimate horse through the ring on Monday, was the topper of the day when Mike Maker went to $230,000 for the filly consigned by Wavertree.
The filly, who worked in 10 seconds flat at the Under Tack show, is the first foal out of Awesome Figure, who is a half-sister to multiple graded winner Ventana.
Mitole has 13 lots remaining in the catalog for the final two sessions of the sale on Tuesday and Wednesday.
