Authentic’s Tomasello very game in Singspiel S. (G3) victory

Tomasello was ultra-tenacious in the stretch of the Sept. 5 Singspiel S. (G3) at Woodbine, fending off all comers to win the 1 3/8-mile turf marathon by a half-length over Dancin in Da’nile and Side Street.

The victory marked the first graded win, and second stakes win overall, for the 4-year-old son of Authentic. The Spendthrift stallion, currently in fourth on the Third-Crop sire list, has seven stakes winners to date in 2026, with overall progeny earnings in excess of $5.5 million.

Tomasello was away in good order and settled nicely in third as the field rounded the first turn. Coburg and English Actor led the way for the first seven furlongs before Tomasello began a three-wide move for the lead on the final turn. He went to the lead with a furlong to run, then determinedly held off the closers to secure the win.

“What we’ve always loved about this horse is that he’s as game a horse as we’ve owned, and we’ve owned some good hard knocking ones,” said Ironhorse Racing’s Managing Partner Harlan Malter, who co-owns the winner with T-N-T Equine Holdings LLC. “We know when he comes over, ready to run his race he’s awfully tough to beat and [trainer] Mark’s [Casse] team does a fantastic job of having him ready for the big races.”

Tomasello is now 5-2-2 in 12 starts and has earned $520,882. He was bred in Kentucky by Barry Becker & Judith Becker and is a half-brother to graded stakes winner Enola Gay.
