Basin colt debuts with sharp maiden special weight win

Fuel became the sixth winner for First-Crop sire on Aug. 22 at Ellis Park with a handy 2 ½-length maiden special weight win at six furlongs.

The 2-year-old colt, who was breaking from post 10, quickly put himself into second behind pacesetter Zamboni, who led through a half-mile in :45.99. The duo were head-to-head in upper stretch before Fuel began to pull away in the final furlong to stop the timer in 1:10.61.

A Jackpot Farm homebred, Fuel is out of the stakes-winning Harlan’s Holiday mare Harlan’s Honor.
