Citizen Bull, last year’s 2-year-old champion for Into Mischief, broke a three-race losing streak in the $125,000 Shared Belief S. on Aug. 31 at Del Mar.

The 3-year-old Bob Baffert-trained colt, who had been off since the June 7th Woody Stephens S. (G1), faced just two foes following a pair of scratches in Sunday’s one-mile race. Citizen Bull took the lead right away and was never seriously pressured at any point. He had a 2 ½-length lead after six furlongs and widened that margin to 5 1/2 at the wire.

“He was back to a distance he really loves,” said Baffert. “The Breeders’ Cup Mile is probably where we will be pointing. We were trying to get him back to form after what he went through. I told Juan [Hernandez] ‘Come back with bugs on your teeth.’ It was good to see him put on a show today. You saw the champion Citizen Bull today.”

Owned by SF Racing LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables LLC, Stonestreet Stables LLC, Dianne Bashor, Determined Stables, Robert E. Masterson, Tom J. Ryan, Waves Edge Capital LLC and Catherine Donovan, Citizen Bull is  5-0-1 in nine starts and has earned $1,556,000.

Citizen Bull’s win came one day after Into Mischief got his fourth Grade 1 winner of the year at Saratoga, when the 2-year-old filly Tommy Jo won the historic Spinaway S. (G1).
