Delightful Claire first TDN ‘Rising Star’ for Thousand Words

After her 9 ¼-length maiden special weight romp Aug. 2 at Saratoga, Delightful Claire was a shoe-in to be named a TDN Rising Star, which she was and also the first for Thousand Words.

With five stakes winners to date this year, Thousand Words ranks third on the Second-Crop sire list.

Delightful Claire, in post 7, broke well and was head-to-head with Lost and Found for the lead down the backstretch. That duel continued around the turn, then just before entering the stretch, Delightful Claire kicked clear. She widened her lead with every stride in the stretch, winning with ease in 1:22.77 for the seven furlongs on a fast track [WATCH RACE].

Delightful Claire, who was a $250,000 purchase at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Summer Yearling sale, is owned by Rigney Racing LLC. The chestnut 3-year-old was bred in Kentucky by Gmbracstables LLC, Mr. & Mrs. Ramon Rangel & Mr. & Mrs. Zachary Mad.
