Golden Afternoon very sharp in $100,000 Tom Ridge S. win

June 30, 2025

Goldencents’ Golden Afternoon became the latest stakes winner for his sire on June 30th at Presque Isle Downs with a 2 ½-length score in the $100,000 Tom Ridge S.

The 3-year-old had previously placed in a pair of turf stakes: the Black Gold S. March 1 at Fair Grounds and the Bourbon S. at Keeneland last October.

Trying the synthetic surface for the first time, Golden Afternoon chased the speedy Makeit to Cheyenne through a very quick :21.59 opening quarter-mile. The swift pace took its toll on the early leader, who gave up the top spot to Golden Afternoon turning for home. From there, Golden Afternoon pulled away with authority to win on his own in 1:.08.92.

The winner is owned by Eddie and Pat Greco, Scott Jaffe, Michael P. Cloonan, and Vaccarezza Racing LLC. He is now 3-2-0 in eight starts and has earned $307,995. Bred in Kentucky by Alexander-Groves Thoroughbreds, Golden Afternoon comes from the family of Grade 1 winners Arch and Acoma.

With 113 individual winners to date in 2025, Goldencents is in the top five nationally in the category. He is also the sire of Madison S. (G1) winner Positano Sunset and Blame S. (G3) winner Mystik Dan.
