Into Mischief’s Tappan Street makes triumphant return at Gulfstream Park
December 19, 2025

Tappan Street, winner of this year’s Florida Derby (G1), made his first appearance since that victory in late March Dec. 19 at Gulfstream Park, coming away a one-length winner in the one-mile contest.
After defeating Into Mischief’s Sovereignty in the Florida Derby, Tappan Street came to Churchill Downs as the favorite for the Run for the Roses, but an untimely injury forced him out of the race. Given time to heal, Tappan Street came back with a solid return in Friday’s race.
Steppe was the leader most of the way, with Tappan Street sitting a length back in second for five furlongs. He began to edge closer on the turn, and the duo raced as a team until midstretch, when Tappan Street began to pull clear to secure the victory.
“Good effort, workmanlike, but kind of what we expected based on what we saw of him in his first three runs,” said trainer Brad Cox. “It’s not as if he always gallops up to the top of the lane and wins under a hammerlock or anything. He’s a good horse, and I thought it was a good comeback race. It’s a two-other-than–that’s what he’s eligible for–and off that long layoff, I felt like it was the right move for him at this stage in his career. Happy with his performance.”
Tappan Street, who sold for $1 million at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearlng sale, is owned by WinStar Farm LLC, CHC, Inc., Cold Press Racing and Qatar Racing. His record stands at 3-1-0 in four starts with earnings of $670,400.
His connections indicated that the colt could make his 2026 debut in next month’s Pegasus World Cup (G1), also at Gulfstream.
Bred in Kentucky by Blue Heaven Farm, Tappan Street is out of the Grade 2-placed Virginia Key, who is a half-sister to graded stakes winners Pyrenees and Grace Adler.
Tappan Street is one of five Grade 1 winners in 2025 for Into Mischief: the aforementioned Sovereignty, Ted Noffey, Tommy Jo and Patch Adams.
