Malibu Moon logs 13th stakes winner of the year
November 6, 2011
Managed Account came running in the stretch to grab a neck victory in the $75,000 Toccet S. on opening day of Aqueduct’s fall meet, in the process becoming the 13th stakes winner of the year for his sire Malibu Moon. The Spendthrift stallion is in the top five in progeny earnings, with nearly $6.9 million to his credit.
Managed Account, a dark bay 2-year-old colt, was about three lengths off the lead after five furlongs, then was asked for his run by jockey Rajiv Maragh. With a sustained run in the stretch he wore down Launch Commander to complete the mile on the main track in 1:35.70.
The winner is trained by Terri Pompay for Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence. Managed Account’s record now stands at 4-2-0-1, earning $98,883.
Bred in Pennsylvania by Brushwood Stable, Managed Account sold for $110,000 at the OBS Sping 2-year-old sale in April. The colt is out of Catinca, winner of six graded stakes, topped by the Ruffian H. (G1), and earner of $864,775.
