Maximus Mischief’s Intrepido draws post 3 for Kentucky Derby (G1)
April 29, 2026

Maximus Mischief’s Grade 1 winner Intrepido will face a full field when he breaks from post 3 in Saturday’s $5 million Kentucky Derby (G1) at Churchill Downs.
The 3-year-old colt, who sold for $385,000 at last year’s OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training, won the American Pharoah S. (G1) last October. In his first start this year, he was a close second to the highly-regarded Plutarch in the Robert B. Lewis S. (G3).
Intrepido is one of seven stakes horses this year for Maximus Mischief, and along with Raging Torrent, his two Grade 1 winners in 2025.
Since arriving at Churchill Downs Intrepido has recorded one sparkling workout, covering four furlongs in a very swift :45 seconds flat on April 26. It was easily the fastest work at the distance that day.
“He’ll just walk tomorrow,” said stable overseer and chief exercise rider Alejandro Galindo regarding plans for the rest of the week following the colt’s workout. “Then we’ll jog up to the race.”
Intrepido is owned by Dutch Girl Holdings, LLC (Michele Arthur) and Irving Ventures, LLC (Ruben Isla) and is trained by Jeff Mullins. The bay colt will be ridden in the Derby by Hector Berrios, who has been aboard for five of the colt’s six starts.
Intrepido was bred in Kentucky by Sierra Fria Farm LLC.
The Derby will be run at 6:57 pm ET and can be seen on the NBC family of networks.
