Mitole’s Shisospicy a finalist in three Eclipse Award Categories
January 5, 2026
When the 2025 Eclipse Award finalists were announced on Jan. 4, Mitole’s dynamic 3-year-old filly Shisospicy was named in three categories: 3-year-old Filly, Female Sprinter and Female Turf Horse.
Shisospicy won five of her six U.S. starts in 2025, with her only loss coming on the dirt in her first start of the year. After switching to the turf in early February, she reeled off an allowance win, then took the Limestone S., the Mamzelle S. (G3), the Music City S. (G2), where she set a track record for the 6 ½-furlongs, then defeated both males and older horses in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1).
Shisospicy was the first 3-year-old filly to win the Sprint.
After her Breeders’ Cup triumph for Morplay Racing and Qatar Racing, Shisospicy was sent to the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Mixed Sale, where she was bought back by Morplay Racing for $5 million and returned to trainer Jose D’Angelo for a 2026 campaign, with her first start to be determined.
The 55th Annual Resolute Racing Eclipse Awards ceremony, presented by John Deere, The Jockey Club and the NTRA, will be on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Shisospicy was one of Mitole’s five graded stakes winners and helped propel him to finish second on the 2025 Third-Crop Sire list. Mitole is standing this year for $10,000 S&N.
