Mitole’s Shisospicy burns her competition in the $2,000,000 Grade 2 Music City Stakes
September 8, 2025
Shisospicy made her return stateside a successful one, taking the $2,000,000 Grade 2 Music City Stakes at Kentucky Downs with ease.

A TDN Rising Star on debut at 2 years old at Gulfstream Park, Shisospicy won three straight races in 2025, including the Grade 3 Mamzelle Stakes at Churchill Downs over eventual Grade 1 winner Kilwin. Trainer Jose D’Angelo sent the speedy Mitole filly to Royal Ascot to compete against the boys in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup. After a lackluster finish, the fast filly returned to Kentucky and dominated the G2 Music City Stakes for owners Morplay Racing LLC and Qatar Racing Ltd.
Breaking from post 10 in a field of 12, Shisospicy and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. broke sharply and stayed right on the quick pace going :21.83 in the opening quarter. She gave up the lead to Gata Brazil but took command again and pulled away to win by 3 lengths. The 6 1/2 furlong race was run in a near track record time of 1:14.54 at the unique Kentucky Downs.
Bred in Kentucky by Bill Heiligbrodt & Corinne Heiligbrodt, Shisospicy is out of the Into Mischief mare Mischief Galore who has been bred back to Jackie’s Warrior for a 2026 foal. Shisospicy is Mitole’s 4th Graded Stakes winner in 2025.
See you at Breeders’ Cup, Shisospicy!
