Moonlit Promise best in $125K La Lorgnette

September 3, 2016

Top-10 General Sire Malibu Moon registered his eighth stakes winner of 2016 on Saturday when the 3-year-old filly Moonlit Promise scored a front-running win in the $125,000 La Lorgnette S. at Woodbine.

With just a field of four, Moonlit Promise got some token pressure in the first quarter-mile, but then started to clear off under Gary Boulanger, and was never seriously threatened at any point, winning the 1 1/16-mile contest by 1 3/4-lengths.

“She broke good, not great, and floated to the lead,” said Boulanger. “When (Eurico Rosa da Silva on Neshama) took back, she had her ears up, and we waited as long as we had to, to see when they wanted to go. She’s a very nice filly. She’s pretty professional.”

“We’ve had high hopes for this filly all along,” added winning trainer Josie Carroll. “I’m just glad that (owner John Sikura) sent her back up here. Her mother ran up here and won up here. It’s kind of special.”

Moonlit Promise, bred in Kentucky by her owner, banked $78,750 in victory while improving her record to three wins and two seconds from five starts.

Carroll was referring to Smart Surprise, Moonlit Promise’s five-time stakes-winning dam who captured the Hendrie S. (G3). She is a sister to $3.7 million earner and Spendthrift stallion Court Vision.
