Mitole’s 3-year-old filly Shisospicy racked up her third win in a row Saturday at Churchill Downs with a near track-record performance in the Mamzelle S. (G3).

Going 5 ½-furlongs on the turf, Shisospicy pushed Dreamaway through rapid fractions of :21.72 and :44.03, then with a big kick in the lane, drew off to win impressively by 4 ¼-lengths in 1:01.46 over a firm surface, just .17 seconds off the track record.

“In her last start (the Limestone S., April 11 at Keeneland) the ground was soft and today the track was a lot better for her,” trainer Jose D’Angelo said. “In her last workout, I tried to relax her a little bit and close. She was able to do that today—relax and close hard. Our plan now is to go to Saratoga with her.”

Undefeated since switching to the turf in early February, Shisospicy is 4-1-1 in six starts and has earned $415,370 for her owner Morplay Racing LLC.

The winner was bred in Kentucky by Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt.

A top-five Third-Crop sire by earnings, Mitole is also the sire of the top male sprinter Booth, winner of both the Count Fleet Sprint H. (G3) and Whitmore S. (G3) this year.
